280: WAHM Success Story: Sadie’s Journey From Teacher to Freelancer

EPISODE 280 SHOW NOTES

Hey there! Happy Monday! Today I’m chatting with Sadie Clements as she shares her incredible journey from being a dedicated teacher to finding freedom and joy in the world of freelancing. After a decade in teaching, Sadie faced burnout, balancing remote instruction one year and in-person instruction the next during the challenging times of COVID, all while raising a newborn and a toddler. Seeking a change, she discovered the Live Free Academy, invested in herself and the course, and started her freelancing journey.

Embracing Freelancing

Sadie’s initial goal was to just recoup her course investment, but she quickly surpassed it, exploring various one-off projects. In the beginning, Sadie stayed in the niche she felt most comfortable in and focused on serving teachers, especially TPT sellers. Today, she thrives in writing blogs and creating engaging social media content calendars, graphics, and captions for her 10 clients.  (Yep, 10 clients!)

Work-Life Balance

Sadie has chosen to maintain a full time schedule and works about 40 hours a week. Typically, our LFA students’ want to move towards part-time hours, but Sadie’s goal was a little bit different. She simply wanted to gain more time and freedom with her daughters. She shares insights into her daily routine, working from home while cherishing slow mornings and park outings with her little ones.

Struggling with Boundaries

Despite success, Sadie reveals the challenges of setting boundaries with her clients. She’s a natural people-pleaser and loves to go above and beyond for her clients. We talk through some of the tough areas of freelancing like raising your rates and letting clients go that might not be in alignment with where your business is going.

From Teacher to Freelancer

Discover Sadie’s renewed passion for her work and the joy she finds in contributing to her clients’ projects. She transparently shares how she got started, the tasks she enjoys working on, and her monthly income milestones.

Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.

Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. She wanted a way to stay-at-home with her daughter (and future babies), but still needed to bring in a full-time income to help support her family. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!
