EPISODE 245 SHOW NOTES
On today’s quick freelance questions episode, I am sharing more with you about how to handle client calls with kids at home. I also talk about the different schedules you can have as a freelancing work from home mom and how the great thing about freelancing is that you don’t have to work traditional hours. You can make your schedule work for you and your family. Look at your schedule and your family’s routine, and figure out when the best times for you to work would be.
Some examples of schedules that I see from the women in the Live Free Academy:
1. Naptime Hustle
You work when the kiddos sleep! I started out like this. I would work 5am-7 am and then again during nap time and if I needed to finish up work I would work in the evenings.
2. Hybrid Naptime Hustle / Part Time Childcare
You might have 1 day a week where you have a sitter come and then you do nap time hustle on the other days. You could also do something like 2 days with no childcare, 2 days with part time childcare.
3. Part-time Childcare
You can have a sitter come for 4 days a week for half days (or however you want this to look). You can do part time hours with a sitter and work during those times.
5. Traditional Full-time Childcare
You can structure this however you want but if you want to do full-time childcare and work more hours freelancing, you can! That is the beauty of freelancing, you get to choose!
So these are different ways that you can structure your days as a freelancer but sometimes people ask, “ok, so I can do work at that time?” or “How am I going to do clients calls with kids around?” The truth is that clients don’t necessarily care that you have kids playing nearby while you’re on a call. There are so many mom-owned business owners who run their businesses at home so they can be more present with their families and they are going to understand and not going to care. In my opinion, anyone who is going to have a problem with that isn’t going to be a great client long term and may not be a good fit to work with.
The freelancing world is SO different than the corporate world. You get to choose your schedule and you get to choose the amount of childcare that you have and the types of clients that you want to work with. There is so much flexibility in this and you get the power to choose with freelancing.

More about the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn:
How do I get started? What if I fail? Who will hire me? Is it really possible to create a consistent, full-time income from home?
Welcome to the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn where we will be answering these questions PLUS many more! Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.
Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. She wanted a way to stay-at-home with her daughter (and future babies), but still needed to bring in a full-time income to help support her family. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!
