EPISODE 236 SHOW NOTES
Hey there! I am starting a new series called Land More Freelance Clients and we are kicking off this series with landing brick & mortar clients. Go back to last week’s episode about my 3 predictions for 2023 where I talked about a huge opportunity I see happening this year is going to be landing more clients in the traditional brick and mortar space. So, on today’s episode, I want to share more with you about how to land those clients.
Before we dive into that, I want to share some reminders around landing clients in general:
- If you can land one client, you can land 100.
- When it comes to landing clients, you first need a solid foundation
- You need to know who you want to work with.
(If you need help with building that solid foundation, figuring out who to work with, and landing clients —join us in the Live Free Academy!)
What is a brick and mortar business? These types of clietns are your traditional businesses. These clietns have a physical locaition and a building or may even provide a service where they travel to the customer. Examples of these are: restaurants, boutiques, chiropractors, painters, general contractors, real estate agents, venues.
I share with you the types of people these businesses hire and the pros and cons of working with brick and mortar clients.
Ways to connect and land traditional brick & mortar style clients:
1. Local Networking
A lot of communities have small business groups that meet up and provide learning and networking opportunities. You could also check your local chamber of commerce. You could also check out BNI chapters that are near you! Be consistent in attending these events to build relationships and become known in your space.
2. Direct Outreach
This is also known as cold pitching. Sometimes this has a negative connotation to it, but it doesn’t have to! Make a list of businesses you want to work with, and then start reaching out.
3. Facebook groups
There are a lot of Facebook groups for small businesses and traditional type small businesses. Go to the Facebook search bar, type in your town or city, or the closest one to you and start networking in those!
4. Personal Connections
Make a list of all of the people you know and reach out to them! Let them know you started a freelancing business and you are taking on clients and ask for referrals for the services you provide.

More about the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn:
How do I get started? What if I fail? Who will hire me? Is it really possible to create a consistent, full-time income from home?
Welcome to the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn where we will be answering these questions PLUS many more! Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.
Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. She wanted a way to stay-at-home with her daughter (and future babies), but still needed to bring in a full-time income to help support her family. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!
Our motto is Mom Strong, Work Smart, and Live Free. Are you in? We’d love for you to join us each Monday, as well as in our Live Free Podcast Facebook community!
