Episode 228: How to Land Freelance Clients




Hey there! Today I am sharing with you how to land freelance clients. There are many routes that you can take to land clients, and I’m sharing those with you today. 

Prior to landing clients, you need a solid foundation. This is so important before you land clients. I teach all of that and more in the Live Free Academy! 

Here is the overview of the different ways to land freelance clients:

Facebook Groups

This is my favorite route. There are so many different types of Facebook groups and you can find those that your ideal client is in. Join them and become part of the conversation and become known in these spaces for what you do. I recommend finding three groups with your ideal clients in them, and spending 4-5 days per week at 20 minutes per group networking to land clients.

Personal Network 

Make a list of all of the people in your circle that either have a business or are connected to a business and reach out to them. Another way you can use your personal network is letting your friends and family and those around you know about your business. Tell them what you are doing and they may know someone who needs help or need help themselves!

Direct Outreach

This is directly reaching out to businesses that you would love to work with and pitching them. You find a need that you can fill and reach out to them and pitch yourself. This consists of a very personalized email that is tailored to that specific client.

Online Job Boards

I have a job board in the Live Free Academy. This is where potential clients post the things they are needing help with and you reach out. This is a passive route of finding clients and a great route to utilize but I recommend that you take an active route PLUS utilize job boards to find clients too.

Current Employer

You could reach out to your current employer and ask if there is any capacity for you to move into a freelancing independent contractor role within their company. This is an option depending on your role in the company.


Once you start landing clients, your client may refer you to other people and you will land clients that way. You can also be referred by other freelancers when you are known in a certain space.

Marketing on Social Media

This is a higher level way to go about landing clients once you are more established and clearly know what type of clients you want to work with and who you are marketing to. I don’t typically recommend focusing on growing your social media presence until you are more established and have some clients. This is a great route once you are in that position.

When you are networking and trying to land clients, you want to be sure that you are following up with lead and refining and evaluating how things are going. Keep tracking and taking action and implement your plan.
