Overcoming the Fear of Failure and Reaching Your Freelancing Goals

293: Overcoming the Fear of Failure and Reaching Your Freelancing Goals

EPISODE 293 SHOW NOTES

Hey guys, happy Monday! In today’s episode, we’re tackling an obstacle that most of us face in getting our freelancing business started: the fear of failure. Overcoming the fear of failure and reaching your freelancing goals can seem impossible when you’re first getting started. The fear of failure can be so debilitating and really keep you settled or stuck. I faced it, and I’ve talked with a ton of moms in my course and in my DMs that have faced it as well.

Today, I’m sharing what I did to move from fear to action. Taking action is what ultimately allowed me to be able to quit my job and land my dream work-at-home situation, with my kids in my lap, by my side, in my office, on calls, you name it.

In the Live Free Academy, our course starts with goal setting, and I want to share the three essential goals that helped me move out of the fear of failure state and into taking control, reaching my income goals, and gaining back precious time with my kids.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

Outcome Goals:

Define what you want to achieve with your freelance business. Determine the amount of money you need to make to be able to confidently quit your job.

Project Goals:

Identify one-time tasks or projects needed to set up for success. In the Live Free Academy (LFA), these include setting up a solid foundation, building your business, figuring out services, defining your ideal clients, building your brand, creating your packages and pricing, getting contracts and business software ready, and learning how to land clients. We cover all of this and more in steps 1 through 8 in the course.

Performance Goals:

This is key. This is where I ask LFA students to focus at least 75% of their time. Performance goals are the daily, weekly, or monthly tasks needed to connect with potential clients. These are actions that need to be implemented consistently. For instance, if you’re planning on landing clients through the Facebook group route, then one of your performance goals might be to spend 15 minutes a day in specific Facebook groups connecting with potential clients. You can’t control landing a client, but you can control your daily, weekly, and monthly efforts to connect with them.

Current LFA students: don’t forget that our next Land Your First (or next) Client Challenge starts July 8th! You can still sign up, and this is a great way to keep yourself accountable for going through the performance goals you set for yourself.

If you haven’t signed up for LFA yet, don’t wait! Do it now. You could be fully booked out and working from home by the end of this summer. Send me a DM on Instagram if you have any questions @micala.quinn

More about the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn:

How do I get started? What if I fail? Who will hire me? Is it really possible to create a consistent, full-time income from home?

Welcome to the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn where we will be answering these questions PLUS many more! Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.

Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. She wanted a way to stay-at-home with her daughter (and future babies), but still needed to bring in a full-time income to help support her family. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!

Our motto is Mom Strong, Work Smart, and Live Free. Are you in? We’d love for you to join us each Monday, as well as in our Live Free Podcast Facebook community!
