291: WAHM Success Story: How Miranda Doyle’s Freelancing Business Has Grown and Changed Over the Last Three Years

EPISODE 291 SHOW NOTES

Hey there, and happy Monday! On today’s episode, LFA alum, Miranda Doyle, is on and she’s reflecting on how her freelancing business has grown and changed over the last three years.

Miranda’s freelancing business started with her doing some general VA work, quickly shifting into social media management, and then evolving into project work and web design. Miranda openly shares some challenges she faced by niching down quickly to one-off web design clients. She struggled with the lack of consistency in project work and doubt crept in big time. She has since shifted her business to better meet her family’s needs– she prefers the stability of retainer clients while taking on project work for additional income whenever she has the time and desire.

Now, Miranda has a combination of retainer clients and project work clients, which allows her to adjust her schedule and revenue according to her needs. For instance, this summer, she is pulling back from additional project work to focus solely on her retainer clients… and more importantly, to spend time building memories with her kids. When fall comes around, she plans to ramp up her project work to generate some extra revenue before Christmas. This flexible hybrid setup is perfect for her lifestyle and business goals.

Miranda shares how she niched down to web design, branding, and social media marketing, blending these services together for her clients. She also highlights how local networking significantly boosted her business. Miranda’s an introvert (just like me!), but she stepped out of her comfort zone and attended a few local events and landed a ton of clients.

Miranda is enjoying a sweet spot in her business right now  and soaking up summer with her kids. She’s fully in her carpooling and busy mom schedule era, and she’s so grateful that freelancing allows her to be fully present for all the activities.

In this episode, we cover:

  • Miranda’s freelancing journey from general VA work to SMM to web design
