How You Can Have the Summer You Want While Still Making the Income You Need

288: How You Can Have the Summer You Want While Still Making the Income You Need

EPISODE 288 SHOW NOTES

Hey there! Happy Monday! With summer approaching, I wanted to share some tips this week on how you can have the summer you want, while still making the income you need. As a freelancer, you run and operate your business which means that YOU are in charge of what your schedule looks like.

Set aside some time this week to evaluate your client schedule.

Is it working for you? Will it work for you this summer?

If you need to adjust it, then do it! You don’t have to ask permission. Map out what you want it to look like and then notify your clients of any changes you make.

Planning Your Summer Schedule

First, figure out how many hours you’re working on client work each week. Is it 15 hours? 20? 30? What are you responsible for each week? How and when are you fitting that work in?

Next, dream for the summer! What do you want your summers to look like? Do you want to be able to be out and about with your kids during the day? Then set that time aside! Plan your life first. And then fit work in around that.

Incorporate Flex Time

One way to fit client work into your life is to find windows of time throughout the day when you can focus on work, whether it’s early mornings before the kids wake up, during nap times, or in the evenings after bedtime. Flexibility is key for freelancing moms, especially during the summer months. When I was working at home without childcare, my goal was to wake up before the kids got up and knock my tasks out. Realistically though, that didn’t always happen. If I was up with a teething baby all night, I let myself snooze my alarm and just worked during one of my other work windows.

Design Your Schedule For You

Remember, you have the power to design your schedule around your life and your family’s needs. Whether you prefer a structured routine or more fluid work hours, prioritize what works best for you and your family. Your business should complement your life, not dictate it.

Navigating Client Communication

If you’re in the Live Free Academy and you want to make some changes to your schedule this summer but you’re not sure how to tell your clients, bring your concerns to a coaching call! Let’s chat and plan out how you’ll update them. We can talk through your schedule and write out an email. Clients appreciate when we’re upfront, proactive, and transparent!

More about the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn:

How do I get started? What if I fail? Who will hire me? Is it really possible to create a consistent, full-time income from home?

Welcome to the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn where we will be answering these questions PLUS many more! Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.

Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. She wanted a way to stay-at-home with her daughter (and future babies), but still needed to bring in a full-time income to help support her family. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!

Our motto is Mom Strong, Work Smart, and Live Free. Are you in? We’d love for you to join us each Monday, as well as in our Live Free Podcast Facebook community!
