277: WAHM Success Story: How and Why Roberta Wilson Came Back to Freelancing

EPISODE 277 SHOW NOTES

Hey there! Today we are chatting with Roberta Wilson, lovingly known as Robbie to her family, friends, and clients. Robbie’s story is a unique one about how and why she came back to freelancing! That’s right… Robbie temporarily left freelancing and returned to the corporate world.

Robbie’s Journey Back to Freelancing

Robbie started freelancing in March of 2020. With a background in microbiology and biology, she spent several years working in laboratories. When her integrity was compromised by an owner that asked her to skew data, she quit her job cold turkey. She found fast success as a freelancer offering general VA services and copywriting. Though she left a familiar field for an unfamiliar one, she quickly fell in love with the flexibility and freedom that freelancing offers.

…then, Robbie was offered her dream job as the director of a testing facility. The opportunity was too good to pass up. She went back to working full-time in her previous industry. However, in her new role, Robbie was constantly on a call and quickly realized there was a reason she initially left her 9-5.

This is an episode you don’t want to miss! We chat about how Robbie landed her clients, why she came back to freelancing, and how she’s doing now.

You Always Have Options!

And… this episode is for you if you’re on the fence about getting started because you’re worried you won’t love freelancing or you won’t want to do it long term or you’re worried you won’t like the work.

Let me tell you that nothing is set in stone. If you’re hesitant, then start building your business on the side! See if you like the work. Take on a couple of projects or a client or two and see if you enjoy it. If you like it, you can grow and add on.

You should be constantly evaluating where you’re at and if it’s working for you and your family. It’s important to know that you always have options. If you’re at the point where something is not working, don’t be afraid to make a change. For me and a lot of the women I work work, freelancing was the solution. It’s been a better balance for us. You’re able to work on your own terms, on your own schedule, and it can look however you’d like.
