EPISODE 274 SHOW NOTES
Hey there! On today’s episode, I’m chatting with Kathie Bentley. Kathie has an inspiring story about how she overcame her fear of getting started and replaced her income while working from home.
Kathie is no stranger to pivoting her work life to meet the needs of her family. Her children are grown now, but when her they were young, she left her career as an X-ray technician to stay home with her kids. When her kids reached school-age, she began working part-time doing secretarial work. Later on, she wanted to spend more time with her family and sweet grandbabies so she started working in the school system as an ESL teacher; she fell in love with that role and was able to spend her summers in the pool with her family.
Then… life threw Kathie an unexpected and hard obstacle. Kathie had to have hip surgery and was unable to continue working with students and be on her feet all day long. That’s when Kathie’s daughter encouraged her to become a virtual assistant. Kathie was very hesitant to get started. She felt inadequate because of her age and afraid that she wouldn’t be tech-savvy enough. However, with her daughter’s encouragement, Kathie took a leap of faith and joined LFA.
Now, Kathie works 15 hours a week with 2 clients. She’s totally replaced her income as an ESL teacher, and she gets to enjoy the flexibility and freedom that comes with freelancing.
Kathie chats with us about how how she highlighted her age as a strength and used it to connect with and land her clients. She shares the tasks she does for her clients and how she learned to do them. Kathie encourages us that everything is learnable; navigating through clients’ programs and systems is not as scary as our minds lead us to believe.
