210. How to handle the "what's your experience" question when you are a beginner freelancer

Episode 210: How to handle the “what’s your experience” question when you are a beginner freelancer

Are you new to freelancing or wanting to start but afraid of the “what’s your experience” question that comes up with potential clients? Maybe you feel like you don’t have experience since you are a beginner freelancer.

There is a need for freelancers whether you are a beginner, experienced, or an expert. Don’t let the question of “what’s your experience” stop you from starting. Remember, we all start somewhere!

Today I want to share with you exactly how to handle that question when it comes up with potential clients. Use the experience that you do have when talking with these potential clients. You want to be honest but speak to the experience, strengths, or skills that you do have. For instance, I had experience as a high school English teacher. When a potential client asked me, “what’s your experience with social media?” I was able to confidently answer that I didn’t have experience with social media however I did have experience getting high school students talking about literature and if I could get them talking about literature then I could get her audience engaged and talking on social media. This is what got me from zero clients to my very first client when I was starting out.

Welcome to the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn where we will be answering these questions PLUS many more! Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.

Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!
