EPISODE 207 SHOW NOTES: 3 ways to stand out in your pitches
Hey there! Today I am sharing with you the three ways you can stand out in your pitches. When writing your pitches, it is more than ok to use a template but be sure that it is not a generic email that anyone could receive. You want to customize it based on the potential client that you are pitching to. This may take a little research but remember it is about quality, not quantity when sending these pitches or filling out a job application.
The three tips to help you stand out:
1. Use the language that the potential client is using in the job posting.
Before you apply, go through that job posting and take notes. Read it several times. As you’re doing this, evaluate — what stands out to you as important to this client? Are there important details that I need to elaborate on in my email? Show them, rather than tell them what you can do. Give a story. Don’t be humble about all that you have accomplished.
2. Follow directions.
Read through this job posting and make those notes as tip #1 said. Make sure you follow any directions that they may use. Sometimes potential clients will put tasks in there such as, “Use this subject line”, etc. to see the ones who are actually paying attention. So pay attention and follow those directions.
3. Spend time researching the client.
Follow them on social media. Look at their website, offerings, or freebies. Sign up for their email list. Get to know them so that you can establish that common ground with them and bring it up when you send your pitch.
So if you have done all three of these tips and you want to stand out even more, follow them on social and maybe introduce yourself in the DMs. Sign up for their email list and reply back.
Also, never lead with “I’m a beginner”. It’s ok to let them know you are a beginner if they ask but you don’t have to lead with that in your pitches.
If you are in the Live Free Academy and you have sent pitches and aren’t hearing back, bring them to the Wednesday coaching calls or post them in the LFA course Facebook group. I’m happy to give feedback!

More about the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn:
How do I get started? What if I fail? Who will hire me? Is it really possible to create a consistent, full-time income from home?
Welcome to the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn where we will be answering these questions PLUS many more! Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.
Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. She wanted a way to stay-at-home with her daughter (and future babies), but still needed to bring in a full-time income to help support her family. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!
Our motto is Mom Strong, Work Smart, and Live Free. Are you in? We’d love for you to join us each Monday, as well as in our Live Free Podcast Facebook community!
