EPISODE 205 SHOW NOTES: How to Prepare Your Business for Summer
Summer break is officially here! Maybe your kids are out of school, maybe you have vacations planned, maybe you have a lot of activities going on. You may be left with the question – how am I going to prepare my business for summer?
I first of all want to remind you that you run your business. You make the decisions about when and how you work.
First, think about: what is your goal for running your business over the summer? Are you looking to maintain, grow, or scale back?
Communicate with your clients if you are making any changes and if your availability will change. Your clients needs may change over the summer as well. They may want to scale back and outsource more. Do you want to take on more work or do you want help them find someone to take over some of the workload? If anything will be affecting client work, be sure to communicate with them ahead of time.
If you have kids that are currently in school, you need to take a look at your schedule. Can you switch up your work schedule? Can you hire a sitter? A lot of high school and college students are out for the summer and looking for extra work so that may be an option for you!
If you are pivoting in your business, summer is a great time to do that. When thinking about freelance cycles that I have seen over the years, summer tends to be a slower season so you can start your business or make those changes within your business and be ready for when another hiring boom happens. Summer is a great time to build that solid foundation.
If you are in the growth period of your business and wanting to scale, here are some suggestions. Summer tends to be slower however you can still land clients and scale your business in the summer! Think about your ideal clients, what kind of challenges are they facing in the summer? Do they need additional help during the summer? Maybe they need to hire extra help during the summer. Do some direct outreach, follow up with a previous client or connection, ask if they need extra support. I give suggestions on how to reach out to these potential clients in this episode and in previous episodes (linked below).

How do I get started? What if I fail? Who will hire me? Is it really possible to create a consistent, full-time income from home?
Welcome to the Live Free Podcast with Micala Quinn where we will be answering these questions PLUS many more! Whether you’re just starting your freelance business (heck even if you don’t know what freelancing is yet) or you’re looking to scale, this podcast will give you tangible business advice along with inspiring interviews to help you create a life and career that works for YOU and YOUR family.
Your host, Micala Quinn, started out teaching high-school English, but when her first child was born, she immediately began searching for something more. She wanted a way to stay-at-home with her daughter (and future babies), but still needed to bring in a full-time income to help support her family. Micala started freelancing, quickly replaced her full-time income, and now helps other moms (like you) get started and grow their freelance business from scratch to 5K and beyond! She believes that being a working mom or a stay-at-home mom no longer needs to be a black and white decision. You CAN have both. On your terms!
